Derbyshire Sport was granted £60,000 from Derbyshire County Council Aiming High Capital Grants fund to develop 3 inclusive cycling HUBs across the county.
Chesterfield SSP agreed to act as the partner organisation with Derbyshire Sport to establish the Chesterfield Wheels for All hub in partnership with Chesterfield Borough Council and local delivery partner Wheely Fun Wheels.
The Wheels for All hub is located in the Queen’s Park. An agreement with Chesterfield Borough Council allows us to use some of the paths including the old cycle race track around the cricket pitch.
More able riders will be able to access the Hipper Valley and Holmebrook Valley Trails that run alongside the Queen’s Park.
Wheely Fun Wheels experienced staff run the centre and provide training and guidance on using the bikes, and can train to Bikeability Level 1 & 2 standard if required or simply help riders to get mobile under their own power! There is a range of bikes for both adults and children with disabilities and an initial discussion with our staff will ensure riders get the best experience
The Wheels for All Chesterfield centre is one of four in Derbyshire with a range of similar bikes. The others are at Markeaton Park in Derby and at the cycle hire centres at Carsington Water and Rosliston Forestry Centre.
The centre is open to individuals, schools and community groups to enable adults and children with disabilities to experience cycling. All the instructors have been trained to deliver sessions by Cycling Projects.
