Fun 2 Run returns following another successful year of participation last time out and ahead of next year’s Olympics our Flames Festivals are reborn as Rio 2016 Carnival events. Alongside cricket, football, basketball and netball events, the calendar is looking as packed as ever meaning there are plenty of opportunities to keep active this year.

The Eveque Sportshall Development Team have developed an annual international simultaneous relay competition. This incorporates both the World Marathon Challenge (suggested for Secondary aged students) and the 5000m Challenge (for Primary aged children).
Students from all over the world will compete simultaneously to break (and set!) new World Records over the Marathon and 5000m distances. Continue reading
Cycling’s Tour of Britain sped through Derbyshire last week as a host of the world’s top riders tackled the hilly peaks and treacherous bends to complete stage six of the event. A showpiece event, the tour highlighted the picturesque scenery of the Peak District and brought the crowds out in their masses. Fans young and old lined the streets to cheer on the riders and many schools brought trips out to witness the event. Continue reading

The Youth Sport Trust, Derbyshire Sport and local school sport partnerships will come together at Shirebrook Academy on 21st September to help teachers develop a PE curriculum that meets the needs of all learners. Former British Volleyball captain Ben Pipes led his first IMPACT day at Poolsbrook Primary school today, inspiring the students to get involved with sport and work as a team.
A Sky ‘Living for Sport’ mentor, Pipes uses his experiences as an athlete to motivate and inspire young students. Opening the whole school assembly by admitting he was far from a fine sportsman in his youth, the volleyball champ encouraged the Poolsbrook pupils to take any opportunities that arose to find what they enjoy. Far from having a slow start to the new academic year, today’s inset day saw four leadership events take place at Brookfield Community School and Tupton Hall Secondary School.
78 students from schools across Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire took part in the courses as part of the Leadership Academy. Designed to boost confidence and train sports leaders for the future, the initiative is already in full-swing ahead of the start of term. Continue reading
The Leadership Academy’s 62 new students enjoyed a jam-packed team-building event at Queen’s Park Sports Centre today.
