Rugby coach honoured by Lifetime Achievement Award

It is almost two months since the inaugural Active Chesterfield Sports Awards and our Lifetime Achievement winner, John Jefferson, continues to dedicate his time to local community rugby.

John has been an integral and enthusiastic part of the Chesterfield Rugby Club for over 20 years. Keen to teach people that rugby is a sport that can be played at all levels for many years, John set his sights on training young players, many of whom are still playing at clubs up and down the country to this day.  Continue reading

Olympic volleyball captain visits Spire Juniors

Former Team GB Olympic Volleyball captain, Ben Pipes, led a jam-packed IMPACT day at Spire Junior School yesterday.

A Sky ‘Living for Sport’ mentor, Pipes uses his experiences as an athlete to motivate and inspire young students. Opening the whole school assembly by admitting he was far from a fine sportsman in his youth, the volleyball champ encouraged the Poolsbrook pupils to take any opportunities that arose to find what they enjoy.  Continue reading

GO Run For Fun team hit 100,000 pupil target

After hosting a GO Run For Fun event at Mount St. Mary’s College on 1st October, we have followed the progress of the GO Run For Fun team as they aim to reach as many primary school children as possible. Their message is simple – to get as many young pupil running as possible, through fun and well organised events.

Heading a national campaign, the small but dedicated GO Run For Fun team, set themselves an initial target of reaching 100,000 pupils. They will surpass this target today in Liverpool as they host another event for over 700 children across 23 primary schools.  Continue reading

National recognition for Brockwell Junior School

Brockwell Junior School achieved the Modeshift STARS Bronze Award and were presented with their plaque in a special assembly this morning.

After taking part in the Modeshift STARS scheme, Brockwell were rewarded for their commitment to active, sustainable and safe travel. The national scheme encourages schools to generate initiatives that will get more children active on the commute to and from school.  Continue reading

Modeshift STARS announces regional winners

In 2015, 347 schools nationally achieved Modeshift STARS accreditation in recognition of their efforts to encourage their pupils to travel to school in greener, healthier and safer ways. Now the very best of those schools have been announced at the Modeshift STARS regional awards.

In Chesterfield, the scheme was piloted with Brockwell Junior School and Westfield Infants School over the past year. Such was the success of the reward scheme, the Chesterfield School Sport Partnership, along with Derbyshire County Council, will be expanding their programme so that Modeshift STARS reaches every Primary School in the Chesterfield area.  Continue reading
