After progressing through the Key Stage 3 badminton qualifying round, Hasland Hall Community School Girls and Netherthorpe School Boys went one better and won the district final last night.
This week has seen the return of the ever-popular Sportshall Athletics competition for primary schools in Chesterfield. Yesterday saw the first of two qualifying badminton sessions for Key Stage 3 boys in Chesterfield schools.
The National Schools Badminton Championships is split into KS3 and KS4 boys and girls tournaments, with the top two teams from each qualifier progressing to the Chesterfield final. Winners then have the chance to progress all the way to the National Finals, held at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes. Continue reading
It has been a busy start to the academic year for the Chesterfield School Sport Partnership. We aim to ensure that young people in Chesterfield enjoy their experience of physical education and are supported to fulfil their potential whilst choosing a healthy, active lifestyle. Over 450 runners from eight secondary schools took to the cross country circuit at Mount St. Mary’s College today for the annual Chesterfield Schools Secondary Cross Country events.

A packed Winding Wheel Theatre audience were dazzled by 23 performances involving over 100 dancers at our Secondary U.Dance Platform tonight.
It was the 10th staging of the platform and a real opportunity to celebrate the work of the talented young dancers. U.Dance is a programme run by Youth Dance England which seeks to increase the number of youth dance performances and support those who organise them. We are pleased to hold another U.Dance event in Chesterfield and announce that a number of tonight’s performances will be put forward for a U.Dance Award. Continue reading
Six Year 9/10 Girls’ Football teams from across Chesterfield took part in the final of our secondary competition yesterday.
After winning every game, Hasland Hall Community School were crowned champions ahead of St. Mary’s Catholic High School.
There were also teams from Brookfield Community School, Netherthorpe School, Springwell Community College and Outwood Academy Newbold.
Mr Leatherday, of Hasland Hall, said: “They’re a really good team. There’s a few that play for teams outside school but the whole team work together well.”
The tournament was played in a great spirit, highlighted by the players posing for a big group photo at the end. Well done to everyone that took part!
