Fun to Run event attracts over 200 primary school pupils

More than 200 primary school children took part in our annual Fun to Run event on Thursday 19th May at Holme Brook Valley Park.

Sara Evans, Chesterfield School Sport Partnership, said: “The event is a fantastic opportunity for young people to enjoy some outdoor physical activity with their friends and perhaps inspire them to get into running and other sports.”

Children from 14 schools across Chesterfield attended the event, and it proved very popular with both teachers and pupils.

Ben Moss, a teacher at St Mary’s Primary School, said: “It was great to see so many children taking part today. The setting and organisation was first class”

Meanwhile, a parent from Cutthopre Primary school said: “This event has been such a confidence booster for both my children, a fantastic event to take part in.”

Parents were encouraged to attend and support their children. By involving schools, pupils and parents together it is hoped more children will stay active as they get older.

The event encouraged participation with most schools engaging whole year groups in a fun to run event in their own school, before inviting to top five boys and girls to take part in the district event.

The top three boys and girls in each year group were awarded medals for their fantastic achievements.

Congratulations to Walton Holymoorside Primary School, who were crowned year 2 and year 3 Fun to Run champions.

Primary U.Dance Platform 2018 - Chesterfield School Sport Partnership 15.3.18

Chesterfield children take to the stage for a dance extravaganza

Infant and Primary School children from across Chesterfield wowed capacity crowds at the Winding Wheel Theatre over our two-day 2018 Primary Dance Festival.

100s of spectators were treated to 40 performances from 21 schools across the four festivals, including special guest performances from two secondary schools and a solo singalong.

Organised by Chesterfield School Sport Partnership, this showcase event brought together over 600 pupils of all ages to share their achievement through performing their routine to a live audience.

Mr Macnamara, a teacher at Walton Holymoorside Primary School said: “Thanks for organising the festival today, the kids had a great time performing and watching the other schools. We have also had some great feedback from parents.”

The event was a great success and the dancers showed great courage performing on stage, many of whom for the first time.

Sarah Campbell, Leadership and Physical Activity Officer at the Chesterfield School Sport Partnership, said: “The primary dance platform provides an opportunity for every young person to perform and showcase their personal best.

It takes a huge amount of courage and determination to take the steps onto the stage and perform, and to see the self-confidence, pride and smiles as they leave the stage is why we do it.

“Our dance festival is an annual event and to see it grow over the past few years to run over two days with four performances is testament to the support of the primary schools across Chesterfield and to the hard work of teachers and parents.”

Congratulations to all the schools who performed, everyone was excellent and fully embraced the theme ‘Stage and Screen’. We hope to see you all again next year, whether that be at the Primary or Secondary Dance Festivals.

Also a big thank you to the Leaders from Netherthope School, St Mary’s Catholic High School and our Gold Young Ambassadors for their help throughout the festivals.
