Our mascot, Sporty Spire, was treated to a day out at Chesterfield FC today to present Brockwell Junior School with their Kids Cup Winners’ Shield.
Run by the Chesterfield FC Community Trust, the Kids Cup brings together school football teams from across Chesterfield for a one-off tournament that could see them end up gracing the turf at Wembley.
Having won the tournament back in January, Brockwell were presented with their winners’ shield at half-time during today’s home match against Crewe Alexandra. It was a great experience for the kids as they got to pose for photos with Sporty Spire and Chester the Field Mouse, resident mascot at Chesterfield FC.
They add this shield to the trophy they won at our Chesterfield Schools Year 5/6 Football Cup back in October, after which they finished runners-up in the Derbyshire County Finals.
Sporty Spire said: “What a day! I couldn’t believe my luck when the club said they wanted me to help present the winners’ shield. I’ve been a fan of Chesterfield FC for a long time and I hoped this would be my chance to get a game.
“Sadly, that wasn’t to be and if anyone was going to make a late appearance it’d have been the Brockwell team. They’ve done brilliantly! First they won the Chesterfield Schools Cup and now this. They’re a great team with a lot of good players!”
Brockwell are now the team to represent Chesterfield FC at the regional finale on 7th March. Among others they will face Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United.
With a successful performance at the regional finale the team can proceed further to the national final which will take place at Wembley. Good luck Brockwell!
