Half-term packed with leadership courses

At the Chesterfield School Sport Partnership we teamed up with our counterparts in North East Derbyshire to deliver a number of leadership courses across the half-term break.

Modeshift STARS announces regional winners

In 2015, 347 schools nationally achieved Modeshift STARS accreditation in recognition of their efforts to encourage their pupils to travel to school in greener, healthier and safer ways. Now the very best of those schools have been announced at the Modeshift STARS regional awards.

In Chesterfield, the scheme was piloted with Brockwell Junior School and Westfield Infants School over the past year. Such was the success of the reward scheme, the Chesterfield School Sport Partnership, along with Derbyshire County Council, will be expanding their programme so that Modeshift STARS reaches every Primary School in the Chesterfield area.  Continue reading

Cerebral Palsy Sport to host events in Derbyshire

Cerebral Palsy Sport is the country’s leading national disability sports organisation supporting people with cerebral palsy to reach their sporting potential.

They aim to increase sporting participation among people who suffer with Cerebral Palsy. Exercise and physical activity are important for everyone’s health and those with illnesses should not have to miss out.

The organisation tailors disability sport to those with the condition with the aim of reducing the barriers and isolation they may feel when it comes to physical activity.

Cerebral Palsy Sport are bringing three activity programmes to the Rutland Sports Park and Rutland Recreation Ground in Ilkeston on Saturday 28th November. See below for details:

Athleticstart Day – 10:00am – 1:00pm – £5 per person.

Suitable for all levels between the ages of 8 and 13. A fun introductory athletics session run by experienced coaches.

RaceRunning – 10:30am – 12:30pm – £5 per person.

For children, young people and adults who cannot functionally run and rely on sports aids for mobility and balance.

Athletics Training Day – 10:00am – 3:00pm – £10 for members & £15 for non-members

Suitable for all ages 8 and above. Utilise experienced coaches to aid your development. Also includes RaceRunning.

Mini Soccer Finals great success in glorious sunshine

Yesterday there were three Mini Soccer Final events at a sunny Springwell Community College as the best primary school football teams in the area went head-to-head for silverware and the chance to progress to the county finals.

First up it was the Small Schools final, followed by the Girls’ Mini Soccer final and rounded off by the Year 5 & 6 Mini Soccer final. Continue reading

SEN events hotly contested at Queen’s Park!

Over 50 special educational needs pupils across three school sports partnerships made their way to Queen’s Park Sports Centre today for a combined Boccia and Mini Tennis tournament.

From the Chesterfield School Sport Partnership there were teams from Brookfield Community School, Springwell Community College, Netherthorpe School and St. Mary’s Catholic High School. From Bolsover; Heritage High School and from North East Derbyshire; Tupton Hall School.

The two events are designed to be inclusive, giving students of all abilities within a team the chance to play, enjoy and achieve.  Continue reading

Highfield and Brockwell progress to Mini Soccer Final

39 Year 5 and 6 pupils from four Chesterfield primary schools took part in a Mini Soccer Qualifier at Outwood Academy Newbold last Thursday.

After a hard-fought contest it was Brockwell Junior School and Highfield Hall Primary School that progressed to the final on 20th October as the top two placed teams.

They beat off competition from Holme Hall and Mary Swanwick primary schools, with Brockwell keeping a clean sheet across all three matches.

Mr Martin, of Highfield Hall, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for our children to represent the school.

“It has also been nice to see an ex-pupil in a leadership role tonight.”

Well done to all participating teams and good luck to Brockwell and Highfield Hall in the finals!

It was Brimington Junior School’s B team; Brimington Junior School’s A team; Inkersall Primary School’s A team and St Mary’s Primary School who qualified to play in the next stage of the closely contended primary school football tournament.
